What is Zoloft?

Zoloft can be used to affect the brain chemical which are unbalanced and have caused of depression, panic and anxiety and it is anti depressant group of drugs. It is used for the treatment of the anxiety disorder, panic disorder, pre menstrual dysphoric disorder and post traumatic disorder.

Important information about Zoloft

Zoloft should not be taken with pimozide and monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). You should take Zoloft after 14 days you have stopped using MAOI. There might be thought of suicide if you have started taking antidepressant especially if you are younger than 24 years old. If you feel any behavioral change, panic attack, anxiety, restless, hyperactive or thoughts of suicide then you should contact your doctor immediately. There can be some serious lungs problems in new born babies if you take SSRI antidepressant therefore you should stop taking Zoloft if you are pregnant woman. You should not take this medication without telling your doctor. If you are breast feeding a baby then you should use this medication only with permission of your doctor.

Before taking Zoloft

You should take Zoloft if you are using an MAO inhibitor or pimizide. If you have seizure, liver problems, kidney disease or bipolar disorder then you should tell your doctor before taking Zoloft. You will need to have dose adjustments or special in any of these conditions. This medication should not be given to children younger than 18 years old.

How should I take Zoloft?

Zoloft should be taken as it is prescribed by the doctor and its larger amounts should not be taken than the recommendation of doctor. The doctor can change the dose of Zoloft for best results from this medication. You can take Zoloft tablet with water. This medication can be taken with or without food. This medication should be taken at the same time each day. Store this medication at room temperature away from heat and moisture.

What happens if I miss a dose?

You should take the missed dose when you remember it and if it is almost time for the next dose then you should skip this missed dose. You should not take extra medicine in order to make up for the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

You should get emergency medical help if you have taken overdose of Zoloft. Dizzzines, nausea, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, tremor, seizure, confusion and coma can be some symptoms of overdose.

What should I avoid while taking Zoloft?

You should avoid drinking alcohol with Zoloft as it can increase some side effects and there can be some severe reactions. There may be some sided effects with Zoloft which can impair your thinking. Therefore you should tell your doctor if you are taking any sleepy medicines, muscles relaxers, narcotic medicines, sleeping pills and seizure medicines.

Zoloft side effects

You should get emergency medical help if you are allergic to this medication or if you have hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of face, lips and throat. If you have any behavioral change, agitated, irritable, restless, hyperactive or more depressed then you should tell your doctor before taking Zoloft. There can be some serious side effects of Zoloft like high fever, sweating, overactive reflexes, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, loss of appetite, headache, shallow breathing, felling unsteady, tired feeling, weakness, stomach pain, dry mouth and sleep problems.

What other drugs will affect Zoloft?

You should tell your doctor if you are taking pain, fever, arthritis medicine including aspirin, diclofenac, indomethacin, nabumetone and others. If you are taking tramadol, digitoxin, blood thinner, lithium and antidepressants then you should also tell your doctor.
